How To Keep Thinset Out Of Grout Lines

How To Keep Thinset Out Of Grout Lines : Even if you wait until it's time to grout, though, you can still get the mortar out of the grout joints before you apply the grout. Clean up the mortar with an old toothbrush as you tile.. I've been scraping out the thinset that has oozed into the grout lines as I go but how well do they need to be cleaned Some thinset sticks to the sides of the tile up to the face.. If any thinset is visible, you will have to dig through the grout to remove the thinset in applicable areas. Use the razor knife and/or corner of the margin trowel to dig it out. After removing the thinset, vacuum the grout joints with a shop vac to remove any loose debris from the grout joint. Wipe the areas with a damp sponge to clean the tile. Apply more grout to the applicable areas.. I don't know how much thinset you have between the tiles but I have used an utility knife to cut out small portions of thinset. Depending on the kind of tile be careful when doing so in order not to ruin the tile that you worked so hard to install..
